In partnership with Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center, SPARK! Creative Lab is honored to present the Ditty Bops: Connecting the Dots veterans' creative workshop, offering a unique and meaningful opportunity for veterans to explore their personal experiences through the arts in a supportive, creative environment. Using Morse code as both a literal and metaphorical tool for expression, this free, two-hour workshop bridges the gap between the unspoken and the heard, allowing participants to transform memories and emotions into powerful artistic works.
During the session, veterans select words or phrases that hold personal significance and translate them into Morse code. These coded messages become the foundation for multidisciplinary artistic exploration. Participants will experiment with percussion to create rhythmic compositions, delve into visual arts to design imagery inspired by Morse code patterns and craft spoken word pieces that give voice to their unique stories.
This two-hour workshop emphasizes empowerment, creative problem-solving, healing and connection. Veterans will amplify their voices, share their experiences in ways that feel safe and authentic, and build camaraderie with fellow participants. The creative process not only provides a platform for self-expression but also fosters a deeper understanding of the complexities of veterans' lives.
Led by experienced artists and facilitators, the workshop is open to veterans from all service branches and eras. The environment is welcoming and accessible, ensuring each participant feels supported throughout their creative journey. Participants may also have the opportunity to contribute their creations to the broader Ditty Bops: The Art of Listening project, including live performances and exhibitions, further amplifying their voices within the community.
Join us for an inspiring exploration of creativity and connection in this one-of-a-kind workshop designed to honor and celebrate the voices of those who have served.
